Data collection and analysis
Problem– Data collection and analysis
Any planning for improvements in sanitation would require an extensive primary survey that could be mapped to a GIS. The widely used method is collecting the information in paper format and then transferring it to an electronic format for data processing. This is rather time consuming and prone to error. Electronic data capturing would significantly shorten the process and also reduce costs.
Data need to create the solution:
A format of survey (household data)
Intended audience and the Device:
The intended audience is the urban local bodies/utilities.
The technology proposed is a hand held device with Internet, GPS and photography capabilities.
Idea development: Shelter Associates
Description of envisioned solution:
The data (survey) can be collected electronically (in a handheld device) which captures the required information, the GPS coordinates and a photograph of the household. This information can be transmitted to a central repository and the data can be used on a GIS platform for planning. This process will eliminate paper surveys, reduce the time taken and also capture data that can be retrieved at the users convenience.
